The Arrival of the Dining Room Furniture

Michael's grandparents' dining room furniture arrived at around 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 17, 2002.

I heard the truck from inside the house. I looked out the window, and this is what I saw. I was amazed that a semi-truck this size would be able to manuever around in our culdesac.

Michael's Ford Mustang, Chevy S-10 pickup and my Chevy Suburban (all shown in the street on the right) are dwarfed by the Bekins truck.

The nose of the truck was at the foot of our neighbors' driveway across the almost 100 foot diameter culdesac.

We awaited, anxiously...

Our first look at the furniture (sort of).

"Chair #8" was the first to be unloaded.

As the chairs were unloaded into the garage, Michael and I inspected each of them to evalutate the work that will need to be done before moving them inside. The chairs are going to require the most repair work out of all of the furniture. Some of them are literally falling apart. We have discussed reupholstering the cushions in burgundy fabric, to match the crushed velvet panels of our dining and living room curtains.

Ah! The buffet table is gorgeous! I'm looking forward to getting this moved inside! It has wine drawers, a long table linen drawer, and even a drawer with a velvet-lined partition for silverware.

Here is the matching wall table.

We've wrapped it up (stacked to the ceiling!) to protect it all until we are able to work on it.
